DAVID PAULIDES TALKS BIGFOOT AND MISSING 411 - Lexington, Kentucky. Former veteran police detective turned author and mystery investigator David Paulides talks Bigfoot case evidence at the 2019 Cryptid Con held in Lexington, Kentucky. A researcher with the North American Bigfoot Search, Paulides is quite knowledgeable in all things Sasquatch. His real expertise, however, is demonstrated through his “Missing 411” investigations into cases and patterns in which people have disappeared under mysterious circumstances in our National and State Parks systems. Mr. Paulides’s Missing 411 books and documentaries are quite popular among researchers of the Unknown, as evidenced by the packed house at this event. Intriguing stuff. UFO LEGEND: STANTON T. FRIEDMAN - Eureka Springs, Arkansas. The late and legendary UFO Researcher, Author, Lecturer and Celebrity UFO Expert Stanton T. Friedman is seen helping a patron sort their books at the 31st Ozark Mountain UFO Conference (2018) in Eureka Springs, Arkansas. Called “The Dean of Ufology,” Mr. Friedman was a Nuclear Physicist who left his science research career to devote himself full-time to the study of UFOs and talking about their reality to the public. At the top of the heap of the UFO lecture circuit for decades, the much-respected Friedman delivered over 900 UFO lectures around the world. A principal Roswell researcher, Friedman wrote several books on the now-famous saucer crash story and the resulting cover-up. Stanton Friedman was well-regarded as an expert on the UFO Phenomenon and appeared on countless TV and radio programs (including “Coast to Coast”) and multitude of feature documentaries. Stanton passed away in May of 2019 - while traveling on the lecture road to talk about a subject that he loved and communicated about so well. (NOTE: A few moments before I took this photo Mr. Friedman and I were engaged in conversation when we heard word that famed “Coast to Coast” radio icon Art Bell had passed. We talked fondly of him and mourned his loss. To hear of Art’s death while in the company of one of his favorite guests was one of those profound instances that the Universe sometimes provides. Two giants are missed.) THE HAUNTED FIRST UNITARIAN CHURCH OF ALTON AT NIGHT - The First Unitarian Church (1905) in Alton, Illinois is reportedly one of the Most Haunted places in a town with a reputation as being "One of the Most Haunted Small Towns in America." Built upon the burnt-out ruins of previous churches, the First Unitarian Church has stood in Alton for more than a century. From rumors of hidden "Underground Railroad" slaves dying in a pre-Civil War fire to the mysterious hanging death/murder of Reverend Phillip Mercer in 1934, the tales of ghostly origins abound here. Reports of disembodied voices, mysterious music, ghostly touches, and spectral apparitions of a "Suited Man" (possibly Mercer's unsettled spirit) and a mysterious "Shadow Being" have been reported over the decades. Considered to be a highly active site by ghost hunters, my own night-long exploration here proved revealing as I encountered a couple of unexplained photographic and physical anomalies. THE MOST HAUNTED HOUSE IN CAPE GIRARDEAU - Cape Girardeau, Missouri. Built in 1846, by the Reverend Adriel Sherwood, the Sherwood-Minton House (named after the original Sherwood Family and the Minton Family which owned the home the longest) is a unique historic home with many intriguing stories and a reputation as being “Cape Girardeau’s Most Haunted House.” Many of the spooky accounts of paranormal activity stem from the property’s use during the 19th-century as a Women’s Seminary and as a Union officers’ quarters and smallpox hospital during the Civil War period - many of the encountered spirits appearing donned in the recognizable wardrobe of their times. Rumors (not confirmed, but possible) tell of an underground body tunnel connecting the house to the nearby (and equally haunted) Old Lorimier Cemetery, with possibly hundreds of bodies from the smallpox hospital having been transported and interned there. Spectral encounters, moving objects, and strange noises have been reportedly alleged over the decades by various residents and visitors to the home. Check out the Amityville-like appearance of the likely-to be-haunted house next door! One of Cape’s creepiest corners. MILL SPRING: 1973 UFO FLAP EPICENTER - Mill Spring, Missouri. Highway 49 heading into the Missouri town of Mill Spring - population 189 (2010). It was in the skies above Mill Spring where - on February 21st, 1973 - local residents began encountering a variety of mysterious unknown lights and craft in the famous “Brushy Creek UFO Scare of 1973.” Mill Spring (located in the heart of the Bushy Creek area where the same-named creek flows through Wayne County) became a focus for UFO Researchers and Worldwide Media following the reports of UFOs having been encountered on this road and around this town. Hundreds of people within a half-hour’s drive from the Mill Spring epicenter claimed aerial sightings and witnessed alleged landed craft during the February-April, 1973 flap. Noted UFO Investigators Dr. J. Allen Hynek, Ted Phillips, Dr. Harley Rutledge and Hayden Hewes all came here to look into this series of anomalous events and seek some answers. A “UFO Central” during this time, crowds of skywatchers could be found driving down or parked on the side of this road, all hoping to catch glimpse of a UFO, with many reporting having done so. Part of a national “wave” of UFO sighting events taking place across the nation that year, the reports around Brushy Creek gradually thinned out and the hysteria died down as the wave came to its end. But, sightings in the area around Mill Spring didn’t fully end with the flap - the continuing persistence of aerial anomaly reports (though less frequent) were enough to prompt Dr. Harley Rutledge to organize his “Project Identification” scientific field study to observe/document the area’s anomalies long-term and firsthand. Although these investigative efforts ended decades ago (having catalogued some interesting documentation) there are still UFOs reportedly seen around Mill Spring from time to time - and what was seen then, and continues to be seen today, remains wholly unexplained. August 21st, 1955 - the Sutton Family home was allegedly besieged by strange bug-eyed, big-eared beings, following the sighting of a flying saucer, in what would come to be known as "The Kelly-Hopkinsville Encounter." Each August, the rural village of Kelly celebrates its famous Alien Encounter in a field next to the incident location during it's annual "Little Green Men Days" UFO Festival. This family fun local fair helps benefit community and civil improvements each year. The encounter location is to be found beyond the trees in the background of this pic.
