@industrial.tech When flying straight and level flight and following a selected straight line ground track, the preferred method of correcting a wind drift is to angle sufficiently into the wind to cancel the effect of the sideways drift caused by the wind.
Wind directions and velocity variations require corrections of the flight path so that the intended course is acheived. Unlike an automobile, but similar to boat or a ship, wind directly influences the path that airplane travels in reference to the ground.
As seen in the picture, if you wish to maintain your correct course where there is side wind, then proper correction is necessary. The picture shows it all😍😍
